German side Borussia Mönchengladbach are mourning the death of U23s player Jordi Bongard.
The club announced that the 20-year-old had tragically passed away in a traffic accident on Thursday.
After joining the Bundesliga club aged 12, he had worked his way up to the U23 side, and even represented Germany at youth levels.
“Borussia mourns the death of U23s player Jordi Bongard, who unfortunately died in a car accident last night,” they wrote on social media.
“We would like to send our deepest condolences to his family and friends through this difficult time.
“Jordi will forever be in our thoughts and in our hearts!”
The club’s sporting director, Roland Virkus, also extended his sympathy to Bongard’s family with training for the first team and U23 sides cancelled.
“We received this terribly news this morning and are stunned.
“Our deepest sympathy and our thoughts are with Jordi’s family.”
Rest in Peace, Jordi Bongard.
