Johnny Depp’s Defamation Lawsuit Against Amber Heard Will Be Going Ahead
Johnny Depp has been granted permission by a judge to proceed with his defamation lawsuit against ex-wife Amber Heard.
A Virginia judge has allowed the actor’s lawsuit against his ex-wife to proceed.
Depp is suing Heard for defamation over a Washington Post Op-ed she wrote in 2018 about surviving domestic violence.
According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, the judge denied Heard’s request to have the case dismissed which she made after Depp lost his libel lawsuit against The Sun in 2019.
They also state that both lawsuit’s are “inherently different.”
“The Sun’s interests were based on whether the statements the newspaper published were false. [Heard’s] interests relate to whether the statements she published were false,” the judge states.
Earlier this week, the San Sebastian Film Festival announced that they would be awarding Depp with their highest honorary award.
