Jussie Smollett could return for the finale of Empire in 2020.
The 37-year-old raised questions as to whether he was really attacked as he walked the streets of Chicago — fast-forward to now and both the City of Chicago is suing him, and equally the actor is suing them.
Brett Mahoney, the Empire show-runner, has revealed that Fox is in discussions about reviving Smollett’s character. The series creator, Lee Daniels, has already stated that “Jussie will NOT be returning to Empire.” — never say never, according to Mahoney.

He said to TV Line, “It would be weird in my mind to end this family show and this family drama which he was such a significant part of without seeing him. It’s fair to say it’s being discussed, but there’s no plan as of yet to bring him back. There’s been no decision made.”
