Kanye West Files To Officially Change His Name To ‘Ye’

Kanye West has officially filed to have his name legally changed to Ye. 

According to Sky the filing was made to the Los Angeles Superior Court on August 11.

The 44-year-old rapper has referred to himself as Ye for several years. In 2018 West posted on Twitter: “The being formally known as Kanye West. I am YE.”

West has explained in interviews that ‘Ye‘, as well as acting as an abbreviation to his current name, is also referenced in the Bible. His eighth studio album also shared the name.

The ‘Power‘ singer also seems to intend to drop his surname. ‘West‘ is shared by his four children, North, Chicago, Psalm and Saint. It is also shared with Kim Kardashian – with whom he is currently going through divorce proceedings.

West did not request for Kardashian to stop using his name when she filed for divorce in February. The pair have agreed to joint custody of their children and neither are seeking financial support.
