Lewis Hamilton has decided to change his name to honour his mother’s legacy.
The seven-time world champion will add ‘Larbalestier‘ – his mother’s maiden name – as a middle name.
“I am really proud of my family’s name,” said Hamilton. “My mum’s name is Larbalestier and I’m just about to put that in my name. I really want her name to continue on with the Hamilton name.”
Hamilton adds: “I don’t really fully understand the whole idea when people get married then the woman loses her name.”
The 37-year-old is now focused on the upcoming 2022 season.
He reveals he is working on the name change, but it won’t be official for the Bahrain Grand Prix on Sunday.
