Lewis Hamilton had a weekend to forget in Saudi Arabia, and now he has opened up about finishing 10th in the Grand Prix.

It was a stark contrast between his performances last season that saw him go toe-to-toe with Max Verstappen.

But while Verstappen topped the leaderboard, Hamilton was left behind.

“I am so happy the weekend is done,” Hamilton said. “I am so happy that everyone is safe, I am just looking forward to getting out. I just want to go home.”

While all eyes were on the circuit, it was subsequently overshadowed by rebel attacks on an oil storage facility nearby.

The Briton failed to make it out of the first qualifying round for the first time since the Brazillian Grand Prix in 2017.

“We are quite a bit off pace-wise, we’ve got a lot of work to do,” Hamilton added. “Right now, we’re not fighting for the top step. We’re so far off the guys at the front.”

Hamilton will be back in action on April 10 at the Australian Grand Prix.
