Liverpool Left Frustrated By 10-Man Arsenal In EFL Cup Semi-Final

Liverpool and Arsenal both failed to make their mark on first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final, as they aim to book their place in the final.
The merseyside club were left frustrated by 10-man Gunners over 90 minutes.
Granit Xhaka was sent off in the 25th minute for a last ditch desperate tackle on Diogo Jota, which was deemed to have denied him a clear goal scoring opportunity.
The first shot on target – which did not come until the 70th minute – saw Bukayo Saka fail to put Arsenal ahead after pressure from Alisson in goal.
Perhaps the opportunity of the game came late on, when Takumi Minamino was faced with an open goal before firing his effort well over the bar.
A man-of-the-match performance from Ben White saw the Gunners become the first away club to keep a clean sheet at Anfield since 2019.
Liverpool gave up the home advantage when they requested an initial postponement due to Covid-19 cases, meaning the ball is well and truly in Arsenal’s court next time round.
The second leg will unfold at 19:45 GMT on January 20.
