Maria Bakalova To Star In Romantic Comedy ‘The Honeymoon’

‘Borat‘ star Maria Bakalova will star in new romantic comedy film ‘The Honeymoon‘.

Deadline reports that Bakalova will star alongside Asim Chaudhry and Lucas Bravo.

“This film intrigued me because it’s an escapist comedy that puts a twist on the classic buddy movie format by including a strong female character, particularly from Eastern Europe.” Said Bakalova. “I think after almost two years of this pandemic, we’re all looking for something to lift our spirits and help us mentally escape our apartments. Very glad to be on the producing team of the film as well.”

The feature will follow new bride, Sarah (Bakalova), who sets off with her husband, Adam, on a romantic honeymoon to Venice. Their idyllic getaway turns into a disaster when Adam’s best friend arrives.

Maria Bakalova shot to fame after her Oscar-nominated performance in Sacha Baron Cohen’s ‘Borat Subsequent Moviefilm‘. The 25-year-old actress is also set to feature in new A24 slasher film, ‘Bodies, Bodies, Bodies‘.

‘The Honeymoon‘ will be directed by Dean Craig and produced by Guglielmo Marchetti and Piers Tempest. Filming will reportedly begin in Rome and Venice in September.
