According to Deadline, Schrader is directing the feature based on his own screenplay.
The story follows a horticulturist (Edgerton), devoted to tending the grounds of an estate and pandering to his wealthy employer (Weaver). When she demands that he take on her wayward niece, it unlocks dark secrets from a buried violent past.
Schrader most recent film, ‘The Card Counter‘, is to debut at Venice Film Festival tomorrow (September 2). The film, starring Oscar Isaac and Tiffany Haddish, is a crime drama following a military interrogator-turned-gambler haunted by his past decisions.
“Master Gardener is the natural successor to the brilliant film The Card Counter which will have its world premiere tomorrow at the Venice Film Festival.” Said Gabrielle Stewart of HanWay Films. “Character-driven, sexy and surprising, with plenty of intrigue one would expect from a Schrader film.”
Joel Edgerton recently returned to screens in A24’s ‘The Green Knight‘ with Dev Patel. He will also appear in Australian crime thriller ‘The Unknown Man‘ and is currently filming for Ron Howard’s new survival film, ‘Thirteen Lives‘.
