Matt Shakman To Direct Next Movie In The ‘Star Trek’ Franchise

Chairman of the Paramount Motion Picture Group Emma Watts, reportedly pushed hard to land Matt Shakman as the next director. Deadline reports that production will begin in spring 2021.

Along with landing the directing role for the latest movie in the Star Trek franchise, Shakman also received an Emmy nomination for his work on the Marvel limited series WandaVision.

The film will be the first Star Trek movie to release since 2016, and has had a script written by Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet.

J.J. Abrams will produce under his production company Bad Robot.
