Melanie Lynskey Says She Was Body Shamed On ‘Yellowjackets’ Set

Melanie Lynskey says she was body-shamed during the production of the new Showtime series, Yellowjackets.
The 44-year-old actress, who plays an adult version of Shauna in the show, spoke about her experience in an interview with Rolling Stone.
“They were asking me, ‘What do you plan to do? I’m sure the producers will get you a trainer. They’d love to help you with this,’” she revealed.
Though she went on to say that her co-stars Christina Ricci, Juliette Lewis and Tawy Cypress leapt to her defence – with Lewis penning a letter of complaint to producers – she also expressed disappointment in some fans reactions to her character’s storyline.
In particular, Lynskey said that Shauna’s relationship with Adam – an artist and younger man – caused notable strife among the fanbase.
“I’m just like, ‘Wow, really?’” she said. “‘That’s where people’s heads are at, that the most important thing is being thin or young?’”
Yellowjackets made its debut in November 2021.
The series, created by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, follows a girl’s high school football team in 1996 who are forced to take extreme measures to survive after their plane crashes over Canada.
