Naya Rivera’s Family Agree Settlement In Wrongful Death Lawsuit

Naya Rivera’s family has settled the wrongful death lawsuit which they launched almost two years prior.
The Glee star tragically drowned while taking a boat trip on Lake Piru with her son, Josey, in July 2020. She and her son (now 6-years-old) were declared missing when they failed to return from the trip.
Though Josey was discovered alive and alone on the boat, Rivera’s body was recovered from the water almost five days later.
The lawsuit, filed by Rivera’s estate and the father of her child Ryan Dorsey, claimed that the actress’s death was preventable. It accused Ventura County, California of failing to properly equip the boat which Rivera had rented with required safety features.
Now, after almost two years, a settlement for the lawsuit has been reached.
“Through this settlement, Josey will receive just compensation for having to endure the drowning of his beloved mother on Lake Piru,” said lawyer Amjad M. Khan in a statement obtained by People.
“Though the tragic loss of Josey’s mother can never truly be overcome, we are very pleased that the monetary settlement will significantly assist Josey with his life beyond this tragedy.”
