Queen Elizabeth II Has Died At 96

Her Majesty the Queen, Elizabeth II, has passed away aged 96.

Queen Elizabeth II has died, confirms Buckingham Palace.

Her death comes just months after her husband, The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip died at 99 years of age.

Known informally as Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor, the Queen of the United Kingdom fulfilled her duties for over 70 years after her father, King George VI, lost his life during the night in 1952 at 56 from coronary thrombosis.

When Britain entered the Second World War in 1939, the Queen, at the time a Princess alongside her sister Margaret, were forced to stay in the United Kingdom as when Lord Hailsham suggested the Princesses were evacuated their mother, Elizabeth Angela Marguerite Bowes-Lyon, said, “The children won’t go without me. I won’t leave without the King. And the King will never leave.”

They were moved around the country from Balmoral Castle in Scotland to Sandringham House, Norfolk before living at Royal Lodge, Windsor. The family then moved to Windsor Castle where they resided for nearly five years. A young Princess, then aged 14, carried out a radio broadcast marking her first true public addressing on the BBC‘s Children’s Hour where she gave a message to other children that had been evacuated, saying, “We are trying to do all we can to help our gallant sailors, soldiers, and airmen, and we are trying, too, to bear our own share of danger and sadness of war. We know, every one of us, that in the end all will be well.”

At 25 years old Elizabeth II became queen regnant of the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan and Ceylon and was the Head of the Commonwealth.
