Rachel Zegler Responds To Accusations Against Ansel Elgort

Rachel Zegler has addressed the sexual assault allegations against her West Side Story co-star Ansel Elgort.

Allegations first surfaced in June 2020, when a woman posted on Twitter that she had been sexually assaulted by Elgort in 2014 when she was just 17-years-old.

The accusations came to light after production on West Side Story had concluded, and Elgort has since assisted in promoting the feature, which debuted on December 10, 2021.

The 27-year-old actor has adamantly denied the allegations, although acknowledges that he once shared a relationship with the woman, named Gabby.

Now, during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Zegler and fellow West Side Story co-stars Rita Moreno and Ariana DeBose, have addressed the allegations against Elgort.

“We made a movie two and a half years ago, and a lot has gone on in the world since then,” stated Zegler, who starred as Elgort’s love interest, Anita. “A lot has changed very publicly, and privately as well. There’s been a lot of awakening. You just hope that the people involved are OK, that they are asked in a respectful manner and that they are given the opportunity to answer for themselves.”

“Nobody really knows what’s going on in anyone’s head,” said DeBose. “Only the people who were involved in that situation know what actually went down.”

“I think it would have been absolutely horrendous and wrong for anyone to take sides in that matter,” added Moreno. “It’s not for me to make those judgements.”
