Raiders coach Jon Gruden has resigned following the exposure of racist, homophobic and misogynistic emails.

Gruden announced his departure in a statement posted to the official Las Vegas Raiders Twitter page.

“I have resigned as Head Coach of the Las Vegas Raiders,” reads the statement. “I’m sorry, I never meant to hurt anyone.”

A second statement from Raiders owner Mark Davis, accepted his resignation. Rich Bisaccia will act as an interim Head Coach until a permanent replacement is decided.

Allegations of offensive emails were first reported on Friday by the Wall Street Journal. In the report, it was claimed that Gruden had used racist language to describe the executive director of the NFL Players Association, DeMaurice Smith.

Fresh allegations were then shared in The New York Times, exposing numerous emails of a racist, homophobic and misogynistic nature.
