Robin Williams’ son, Zak Williams, has reflected on the internal demons his father secretly battled before his tragic death.

On Robin’s 68th birthday, Zak was interviewed by Good Morning Britain last week during the lead up to the Mrs Doubtfire star’s birthday on July 21.

The 36-year-old explained that Robin passing away was “heartbreaking,” and even though he was battling demons internally, he would still perform because he “wanted to share laughter with the world,” even though he was “suffering and struggling” with depression.

Zak said, “I admired him and loved him … he wasn’t always open to sharing his personal pain and struggle … we noticed that over a period of time.” He further explained that Robin will live on through his 2-month old son, McLaurin Clement Williams, with McLaurin being Robin’s middle name.

Zelda Williams, Robin’s daughter, has opened up about her struggles with depression, and last year she shared a photo on social media with the caption, “Everyone who has dealt with loss knows the plain of certain anniversaries, moments full of memory that come round like clockwork and usurp all others, no matter how hard you may try to prepare for or avoid them,”

On August 11, 2014, at the age of 63, Robin died by suicide in his home.
