Rolling Stones Drummer Charlie Watts Dies Aged 80

Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts has passed away at the age of 80.
News of his passing was shared on the official Twitter page of The Rolling Stones.
“It is with immense sadness that we announce the death of our beloved Charlie Watts.” Read the statement. “He passed away peacefully in a London hospital earlier today surrounded by his family.”
“Charlie was a cherished husband, father and grandfather and also as a member of The Rolling Stones one of the greatest drummers of his generation. We kindly request that the privacy of his family, band members and close friends is respected at this difficult time.”

Just weeks earlier it was announced that Watts would miss the Stones‘ ‘No Filter‘ tour on the advice of his doctors. Watts had undergone what was described as a “completely successful” medical procedure which required time to recover.
Watts had been a member of The Rolling Stones since 1963.
Tributes to the world-famous musician have poured in from big names like Elton John to Paul McCartney.
“Rest in peace, Charlie Watts.” Wrote Yoko Ono. “Our love and deepest condolences go out to Shirley, Seraphina, Charlotte and all The Rolling Stones family. Love, yoko.”
