The former Jets player, Tim Tebow, has officially signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars despite public criticism.

Tebow hasn’t played in the NFL since 2012, except for a failed attempt in 2015 to qualify for the Philadelphia Eagles.

After a short period playing baseball in the Mets, the now 33-year-old Tebow returns to the NFL as a tight end.

ESPN reports that he has signed a one-year contract and will today join his new teammates for the offseason program.

“I want to thank the Jaguars for the opportunity to compete and earn the chance to be part of this team.” Tebow said in a statement. “I know it will be a challenge but it is a challenge I embrace.”

Former Jets teammate Greg McElroy, has already voiced his scepticism over the Jaguars decision to sign Tebow.

“[The Jets] tried switching him to tight end and he wasn’t good.” McElroy said on Sirius XM. “Tim ran a 4.8, Taysom Hill runs a 4.4. They’re just two totally different players. Tim is a good dude and I hope the best for him. But its a side show and that’s what it will be come training camp time.”

Tebow will be playing under his former Flordia University coach, Urban Meyer.
