After an eight-year wait, the United States Men’s National Team is heading to the World Cup

Gregg Berhalter’s side has booked their place on the plane to Qatar in the final match of CONCACAF qualifying.

The USMNT went into the final game knowing that a draw or a loss of no more than six goals would be enough to seal their fate.

Despite losing 2-0 to Costa Rica, the Americans cemented their place in one of the automatic qualifying positions.

They finished third behind Mexico and Canada who are also heading to Qatar in the winter.

“I’m extremely proud of this group,” U.S. winger Christian Pulisic said. “It’s a bit of a weird feeling right now because I hate to lose so much, but I’m really proud, and I can’t wait to go to the World Cup.”

It has been an eight-year wait for fans of the men’s side, who last appeared at a World Cup in 2014.

The 2022 tournament is scheduled for November 21 – December 18.
