The last two UCL Round of 16 ties got underway on Wednesday, with Atlético Madrid welcoming Manchester United and Benfica taking on Ajax

It was the hosts who struck first, taking an early lead in the opening 10 minutes.

22-year-old João Félix beat the United backline to unleash an unstoppable header on David de Gea’s goal, striking the post and going in.

The visitors simply could not cope with the presence of the hosts in the first half, even struggling in periods of the second.

But 19-year-old Anthony Elanga came off the bench to salvage something for the Red Devils.

A wonderfully worked team goal saw Bruno Fernandes slot through his teammate, with Elanga finishing calmly to even the score with 10 minutes to go.

It’s all to play for in the second leg, with United hosting at Old Trafford this time round.

Elsewhere, Benfica struck late on to ensure a draw when they travel to Ajax in the return leg.

It looked like business as usual for the Dutch side when Dušan Tadić put them ahead inside 20 minutes.

But Ajax forward, Sébastien Haller found himself on the end of an unfortunate own goal to make it 1-1.

Haller rectified his mistake just minutes later, giving his side the lead again.

But a late strike from Roman Yaremchuk to equalise once again means that it is all to play for in the second leg.
