Danish footballer Christian Eriksen has thanked fans from around the world for their support after he suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s opening Euro 2020 game.

Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest on Saturday, during Denmark’s opening Euro 2020 game against Finland.

The midfielder collapsed on the pitch after receiving the ball from a throw-in just before half time.

Fans looked on in worry as the midfielder received CPR from medical staff as they attempted to resuscitate him.

Eriksen was taken to a nearby hospital where he was stabilized and is now undergoing tests to determine the cause of his cardiac arrest.

In a post to his Instagram, Eriksen thanked fans for their support and insisted he is ‘fine under the circumstances’.

“Big thanks for your sweet and amazing greetings and messages from all around the world. It means a lot to me and my family.” Eriksen wrote alongside a photo of him smiling.

“Now, I will cheer on the boys on the Denmark team in the next matches. Play for all of Denmark.” he added.

Denmark’s next match is against group leaders Belgium on Thursday June 17.
