Friends star Courteney Cox says she didn’t realise that cosmetic injections would make her look “strange”.

Speaking with The Sunday Times, Cox opened up about her desire to “chase” her youthfulness when she first noticed the signs of ageing.

“There was a time when you go, ‘Oh, I’m changing. I’m looking older’,” she said. “And I tried to chase that [youthfulness] for years. And I didn’t realise that, oh s**t, I’m actually looking really strange with injections and doing stuff to my face that I would never do now.”

She continued to say that the effects of the cosmetic work started to become apparent to her when friends began mentioning it.

“I’d say, ‘The day you realise what your friends were talking about.’ Because people would talk about me, I think. But there was a period where I went, ‘I’ve got to stop. That’s just crazy’.”

The 57-year-old actress gained global fame for her portrayal of Monica Geller in the NBC sitcom Friends. She starred alongside Jennifer Aniston, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer from 1994 until 2004.

The co-stars came together in 2021 for a Friends reunion but speculation began to circulate over the wellbeing of Perry, who has previously struggled with addiction when he appeared to slur his words on the show.

“He’s just struggled for a while. I think he’s doing great now,” assured Cox.

She explained that Perry felt a lot of “pressure” to entertain the audience during his time on Friends. “That’s a lot to think how much he relied on that for his own self-worth,” she said.
