Ed Sheeran “Convinced Himself” To Quit Music

Ed Sheeran has said that he nearly “convinced himself” to quit music after the birth of his daughter last year. 

The 30-year-old singer has revealed that he nearly gave up on his pop career after the birth of his daughter Lyra Antarctica in August 2020.

“When my daughter was born I just said, ‘Maybe this is me now’. I thought, ‘Well, this is what I’m meant to do now’. I stopped playing the guitar, stopped writing songs and I stopped singing,” Sheeran told GQ magazine.

Asked if he was genuinely considering giving up music, Sheeran replied: “I actually convinced myself I was never going to sing or pick up the guitar again. I was like, ‘No. This is it. I quit.’”

The singer added that it took him four months of doing “nothing musically” before he finally got his mojo back.

“After about four months of not doing anything musically at all, I was having a chat with a friend of mine. A musician who is also going to retire,” he said.

“He’s a lot older than me. I told him that I needed something, as after about four months I had lost all purpose.”
