James Michael Tyler who played Gunther on NBC’s ‘Friends’ has revealed that he is battling stage four prostate cancer.

Tyler revealed on TODAY that he is currently battling stage four prostate cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy.

The actor opened up about his struggle with cancer since being diagnosed in September 2018. He unfortunately revealed that the cancer had not been caught early and had now spread to other parts of his body.

“I was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer, which had spread to my bones”,  Tyler said.

“I’ve been dealing with that diagnosis for almost the past three years… It’s stage 4 (now). Late stage cancer. So eventually, you know, it’s gonna probably get me.” He added.

It was during a routine check-up that Tyler revealed he found out something was wrong.

“I was 56 years old at the time, and they screen for PSA, which is prostate-specific antigen. That came back at an extraordinarily high number.”

“Nearly immediately, my doctor called me and said ‘Hey, I need you to come in tomorrow because I suspect that you may have quite a serious problem with your prostate.’” He said.

Tyler had hoped he could attend the recent ‘Friends’ reunion in person but his illness meant he could not do so.

“I wanted to be a part of that, and initially I was going to be on the stage, at least, with them, and be able to take part in all the festivities. It was my decision not to be a part of that physically and make an appearance on Zoom.”

We wish Tyler all the best in his fight against prostate cancer.
