One of the world’s most famous feline’s, Grumpy Cat, has died aged 7.

In a statement released today by her family and manager, they said, “We are unimaginably heartbroken to announce the loss of our beloved Grumpy Cat.

Despite care from top professionals, as well as from her very loving family, Grumpy encountered complications from a recent urinary tract infection that unfortunately became too tough for her to overcome.

She passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, May 14, at home in the arms of her mommy, Tabatha.

Her spirit will continue to live on through her fans everywhere.”

Grumpy became an internet sensation and viral meme in September 2012, after Bryan Bundesen, the brother of her owner Tabatha Bundesen, posted a picture of her on Reddit.

Within 48 hours, the image attracted over 1 million views on Imgur, and from there she became the meme everyone will remember.

On social media, the official Facebook page has 8.5 million followers, with Instagram having 2.4 million and Twitter sitting at 1.5 million — and with over 1,000 merchandise items for sale, her mother, Tabatha, left her full-time job as a waitress in 2013.

Messages of support have poured in with one fan saying, “My 12-year-old grandson and I are great fans … God bless you as you grieve, and thank you for sharing her with the world.” with another saying, “You always made me laugh – except for today. Good luck in Kitty Heaven.”

Others shared selfies they took with Grump whilst she was on tours and attending Vidcon.
