Johnny Depp Sues Amber Heard For $50 Million In Defamation Lawsuit

Johnny Depp filed a defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife, Amber Heard.
He alleges her domestic abuse claims were “an elaborate hoax” which has now damaged his reputation.
In legal documents, it states an article that Amber wrote for the Washington Post in December 2018 is a key focus, explaining, “Ms. Heard purported to write from the perspective of ‘a public figure representing domestic abuse’ and claimed that she ‘felt the full force of our culture’s wrath for women who speak out’ when she ‘spoke up against sexual violence’”
According to Johnny’s attorney, he acknowledges that she never mentions his name, but explains the entire article “depends on the central premise that Ms. Heard was a domestic abuse victim and that Mr. Depp perpetrated domestic violence against her.”
The lawsuit, Johnny is saying the “false allegations” against him are “an elaborate hoax to generate positive publicity” for her and “advance her career”. The documents also claim that “Ms. Heard is not a victim of domestic abuse; she is a perpetrator.”
The couple finalised their divorce in January 2017 after Amber filed for legal separation in May 2016 — they were married for 15 months.
During an interview last year, Johnny said, “The thing that hurt me is being presented as something that you’re really as far away from as you could possibly get, you know? — denying that he ever abused Amber to British GQ.
