Juventus Shock Lyon In The First Leg Of The Women’s UCL QFs

The quarterfinals of the UEFA Women’s Champions League are underway, with Juventus registering a surprise win over Lyon.
Seven time Champions League winners Lyon are looking to get back to winning ways in the competition
Before last season, the club had won the coveted UCL trophy five consecutive times. But knocked out by Paris Saint-Germain in the final eight last year, it paved the way for a new champion.
And now Lyon is at risk of an early exit once again.
Their first leg tie against Italian side Juventus began business as usual with Catarina Macario firing them ahead in the 8th minute.
With 60% possession, it almost stayed that way; a 62nd-minute red card for Ellie Carpenter, however, saw things quickly unravel for the French giants.
Two goals in 12 minutes courtesy of Cristiana Girelli and Agnese Bonfantini saw Juventus take an unexpected lead into the second leg.
Elsewhere in the UCL, reigning champions FC Barcelona came from behind against Spanish rivals Real Madrid to win.
Alexia Putellas, the 2021 Ballon d’Or winner, was at the double for Barca to secure a 3-1 first-leg win.
Marie-Antoinette Katoto struck twice to give PSG a 2-1 advantage over Bayern Munich.
And English league leaders Arsenal hit back late to salvage a draw against Wolfsburg.
The second leg ties will unfold on March 30 and 31.
