Peter Dinklage Criticises “F**king Backwards” ‘Snow White’ Remake
Peter Dinklage has labelled the upcoming reboot of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs “f**king backwards.”
The new live-action film helmed by Marc Webb will star Rachel Zegler in the titular role, with Gal Gadot cast as the Evil Queen.
Promoting his new feature Cyrano on the WTF with Marc Maron podcast, Dinklage briefly took aim at Disney its continued use of harmful stereotypes.
Though he acknowledged the studio’s attempts at racial diversity in the casting of Zegler, he called their portrayal of dwarfs hypocritical.
“Literally no offence to anyone, but I was a little taken aback when they were very proud to cast a Latina actress as Snow White. But you’re still telling the story of ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs‘.” He said, “Take a step back and look at what you’re doing there.”
“It makes no sense to me. You’re progressive in one way but then you’re still making that f**king backwards story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together, what the f**k are you doing, man?” He questioned, “Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soapbox? I guess I’m not loud enough.”
“I don’t know which studio that is but they were so proud of it. All love and respect to the actress and all the people who thought they were doing the right thing. But I’m just like, what are you doing?”
Dinklage is known globally for his portrayal of Tyrion Lannister in HBO’s Game of Thrones.
His latest project, Cyrano, is a musical romance film, scheduled to debut on January 28.
