Remains Of ‘Tiger King’ Zookeeper Erik Cowie Claimed By Family

The remains of late Tiger King zookeeper Erik Cowie have been claimed by family members.

Cowie was discovered dead in a friend’s New York City apartment, aged 53, on September 3. He was found to have consumed an excessive quantity of alcohol, with a bottle of vodka reportedly located on scene.

It was initially reported that Cowie’s Tiger King co-star Jeff Lowe, and his wife Lauren, would collect his body from the medical examiner. You can read more about this here.

They allegedly planned to have Cowie cremated, with a large memorial service hosted at their Oklahoma zoo.

Now, according to TMZ, the New York City Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed that an unnamed relative has come forward to claim Cowie’s remains.

In light of the news, Lowe and his wife are scaling back their planned memorial.

The pair will now be hosting a smaller, more intimate service with friends and zoo staff.
